Sandugama Road, 82600 Tissamaharama, Sri Lanka
Rain Tree by Oak Ray is situated in Tissamaharama, the former capital of southern Sri Lanka, on the banks of Tissa Lake. The hotel occupies a unique setting with over 50 species of endemic and migrant birds that flock to the large rain trees by the lake in front of the property. From a viewpoint 60 feet above the ground, guests can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the lake, ancient temples, and nearby mountain ranges. At sunset, guests can have a drink while watching thousands of flying foxes leave the rain trees and fly past the hotel. The hotel organizes safaris to three national parks: Yala, known for leopards, bears, elephants, and deer; Bundala for bird watching; and Udawalawe for elephants. These parks are 30 to 45 minutes away, with Udawalawe being 75 minutes away. Asian culture, history, archaeology, and religion can be explored at the temples in Tissa, Kirinda, and the holy town of Kataragama, which attracts Buddhist, Hindu, and Catholic visitors from around the world. Kirinda Beach offers the opportunity to swim in the Indian Ocean.
